The 2023 History Book Festival was held on September 29, 30, and October 1. The festival featured 24 well-known and emerging authors over the three-day festival. Selected through an extensive review process by a volunteer committee over a six-month period, the authors’ work represents a broad range of historical fiction and narrative nonfiction.
Children’s Author Panel Discussion
How do children’s book authors make old stories come alive for modern kids? Are some historical topics too tough for children? Books can be mirrors—allowing children to see themselves—but should they also be windows for seeing the diversity of the world? In this time of book challenges and questions about what children should be reading, three children’s book authors discussed how they choose which stories to tell and the impact they hope their books will have. Beth Kephart, Chris Raschka, Traci N. Todd, and moderator Nancy Sakaduski spoke about these topics and more at the Lewes Public Library on Saturday, September 30.
